Does anybody know what scenes were cut from the 1971 re-release which
ran for 187 mins.
I saw this version at Sydney's Mayfair Theatre(now demolished) in
September 1971.
I was not aware at the time that the film had been cut again(20
minutes had been deleted
a few months after the premiere in London in December 1962).
I do remember, however that the entire scene in the second half where
General Allenby
tries to persuade Lawrence to go back to Arabia was deleted.

What other cuts were made compared to the previous 202 minutes edition.
(at the London
and New York premieres the film ran for 222 minutes exclusive of
overture and entr'acte music
and play-out music)

Patrick Conlan has suggested that the 35MM version of this 187 minutes
edition
contained the scene where Allenby(Jack Hawkins) is talking to Brighton
(Anthony Quayle)
in the British looking room with the coal fire.

I have no recollection of this in the 35mm 187mins edition which I
saw in 1972
here in Sydney.

Does anybody have any information about this 187 mins 1971-72 re-
release?

Yikes--the scene in Allenby's office where the blood starts seeping
through Lawrence's shirt? They cut that? That was a riveting scene.

Actually the scene I was referring to was immediately after Dryden
(Claude Rains) comes out
of General Allenby's office and he is confronted by Jackson Bentley
(Arthur Kennedy) who asks him
"What's going on in there" and Dryden replies "..........it's obvious
one of them is half mad, the other
entirely unscrupulous."

In the 1971 version it cuts from this scene directly back to Arabia.
The entire scene where Allenby
persuades Lawrence to go back to Arabia was deleted.

Patty,
Are you sure that the scene where the blood seeps through
Lawrence's uniform was
cut in the 1971 (187 Mins) re-release?

I do remember now that the scene in the hospital where the medical
officer slaps Lawrence across the face and
calls him "a filfthy little wog" was deleted.

Was the scene near the end of the picture where the same medical
officer wants to shake his hand and Lawrence replies
"Haven't we met somewhere before? also deleted?

I don't know; it wasn't me who said that. It's always been in
the versions I've seen.
