Apparently the latest Digital restoration has the original 2.55:1
Aspect ratio.. I don't remember it being that wide for its 1965 re-
release..I imagine it would have lost a fair bit of info for the
1973 70MM prints.
Can anybody confirm that it was shown at 2.55:1 in its original 1957
release?

The Bridge on the River Kwai is presented in an aspect ratio of 2.47:1 in 16:9
mode, but several sources conclude that the original aspect ratio for this
film was 2.35:1.

2.35:1. Original prints had the titles off center as a result.
You are correct in assuming that the 70mm prints made in 1973 had a fair
amount of the image cut off. The image was full height but there was
image information running all the way out to the perfs, underneath the
inboard magnetic stripes.

I believe that's correct. The IB Tech 35mm prints of "Ben-Hur" were done
the same way.
