How could "...Brothers Grimm" be the first Cinerama film shown at the
theater that wasn't equipped for 3-panel until resurrected by Paul
Allen? Surely it wasn't a 70mm printdown.

Because you're wrong, that's how. The ICS listings says it had 3S from
1/63 to 4/64 and 70mm Cinerama after that. Perhaps you're thinking of LA's
Cinerama Dome which was designed for 3S but never had it until modern
times.
