Can anyone recommend specific models of consumer DAT machines that work well
for feature film production? Additionally, recommendations and vendors for
mikes, boom poles, and audio mixers would greatly be appreciated.

Cheapest acceptable DAT for film use is the Tascam DA-P1, $1499.

Wow, how amazing is that. I can find a Usenet post I made 17 years ago and still reply to it! Oh my how much I have learned and experienced since then. And the funny thing is, my son was born on May 15th, 5 years later. Got to love the Internet! Digital footprints are real.
