SFFS Education provides emerging artists, film professionals, K-12
educators, youth and cinephiles of all types with a wide range of
engaging and relevant educational opportunities. Classes are designed
to provide the in-depth knowledge and skills necessary for optimum
performance in screenwriting, production, documentary filmmaking and
film studies, covering both the business side and the artistic aspects

SFFS Film Arts Forum: Thinking Outside the Doc Box

SFFS Film Arts Forum is the Film Society’s bimonthly information-
sharing, discussion, networking, professional development jamboree.
Thinking Outside the Doc Box breaks the popular myth that broadcasters
and programmers primarily are seeking character-driven documentaries
that follow a three-act structure. Featuring clips from inventive non-
narrative documentaries, representatives from ITVS, New Doc Editing
and the Film Society will share ideas and techniques aimed at
fostering truly innovative documentary storytelling.

Letters of Inquiry due February 4
The SFFS/Film Arts Foundation Documentary Grant will award a total of
$25,000 for documentary feature films in post-production. The letter
of inquiry period for projects that are vibrant, intelligent, moving
and innovative is now open and ends February 4, 2010.

The SFFS/KRF Filmmaking Grant
Letters of Inquiry due February 5
The SFFS/KRF Filmmaking Grants will award over $3 million in the
course of five years to support narrative feature films that through
plot, character, theme or setting significantly explores urgent social
justice issues of our time. Applicants or films submitted for
consideration must have a strong connection to the San Francisco Bay
Area and uplift the Bay Area film community.
The letter of inquiry period for projects in screenwriting/script
development, preproduction, production or postproduction is now open
and ends February 5, 2010. A total of $190,000 will be disbursed for
Spring 2010.
