Has any one looked at, or even better listened to, the shotgun mics that
Rode have started making?

The specifications looks good, not worse then at 897 ,even better , the
price is right ( about 200$ in Japan) , so what can be wrong ?
This is the mike I was taking to Iraq to equal the lost if I go with sqn-5
:-)

Oleg Kaizerman (gebe) Hollyland I wish I had it in my news days when
people did fight for the best place near the podium and braked each other
sennheiser .

That's cool. Note that Rode showed three shotgun mics at AES. The
VideoMic attaches to small camcorders and and is, um, 4 inches long
(working from memory here...not much on Rode's site right now). The
other two, the NTG-1 and NTG-2, looked like typical short
shotgun/hypers.

On the noisy AES show floor they sounded like, uh, I couldn't really
tell. OK, I guess. For the price, like $300 USD, I'd guess they compete
with AT897, Sennheiser K6/ME66 and 64, and such.

Sorry I don't have more info handy. Google will reveal a bit more:

Sorry I don't have decent hands-on info to supplement Ty's

Currency exchange rates, import dutys, taxes, shipping, any number of
logical reasons.

this is ausy mike , so the shipping to japan and states is
about the same , exchange rate is relevant to au $ , taxes on australian
product in us ?, what taxes exactly ?), import dutes ?and in japan they are
do it for free or what?
ok something dont seems right or the jupanise site just dumping the rode
mikes :-)
50% differens, probably the mikes come from europ toUS

there are some strainge things with some products - for example sony hdv -z1
The same camera that you can buy in b& h by 4900 $ cost in Israel 4800 euro
in Sony Israel which get it from Sony Europe in Amsterdam
Do you think they would sell one camera in near feature :-)

I saw them at AES also, very light, just out of prototype stage and not
sure if they had them in a "listenable" state. Looked well made, Mr.
Freedman, company owner you see in their print ads, was very serious
about making a product that would be accepted by the "film/TV"
community, so at the very least it's a valiant effort. But as I told
him, until we know what it sounds like and can compare to what we
already know and use and trust, nobody was going one. He didn't
disagree with that.
No on to Ty's review of the camera mouunt version...

I spoke to Craig at Rode here in Sydney the other day (week), and he said
that they weren't released as yet, but were close.
The specks sound pretty good and the price...well.
I'm waiting to get one of the phantom ones to try out.

Don't think I ll put my hand on this one in short time, the local rode
representer still don't know this mike existence:-)
- but certainly don't think this is in a close range to 416 - its more
targeting the back electrets mikes like senheiser me66 and the AT 297 not
the 416 and similar
but rode is a good product so might be good bang for the buck

Think you may be wrong on this one, Oleg, from the info
I got from Craig at Rode here in Sydney.

What did I say wrong , that the locals still didn't get the model or this is
not targeting the 416 or it not a good bang for the buck ?
with all the respect to rode mikes and all the osyes on this board which
jump when they see the red flag:-) 2 416 which I sold last month served
me 12-14 years and served someone before sounded the same as the day I
bought them , sorry no rode was surviving this - so you can do good
product , you can try to convince people to buy it but you need a decade
to prove it .

Oleg Kaizerman (gebe) Hollyland believe that chiniz are starting to take
over the world and they started it with rode capsuls :-)
