We just did some tests with the new Canon 7D on my show. There is an
audio track on the camera so we attached a clockit box to it and I ran
my sound at 23.976. A bit of an offset but they just slid the audio
into place by a few frames and it sank fine. The sad part is that
there is now an external audio box that has xlr inputs. That can be
worrisome if those BIG Time producers out of film school think they
can buy a $2000 SLR and can capture good sound with it. Should we
start panicking now or later?

It still sounds pretty wretched, and the ext boxes make the sound
somewhat strange. Shooters don't like being tethered
with the ext boxes either. For one--man-bands, whatever, but they
aren't even close to the audio quality of even an HDV camera
yet.

They aren't up to the audio quality of my 25 year-old Sony Walkman.
