I am the sound section of a small DV project group. We just finised
shooting a film and are ready to go into post. Right now I have a
C1000s as the indoor boom mic (I know, not exactly something to boast
about), and oddly, it wasn't until this film that I realized the
harshness of this mic enough to want to replace it. So I'm looking for
a budget (close to or under $300 new or used) hypercardioid to use not
only for booming on set but also for foley, ADR, and some field
gathering.

I read about, listened to, and heard rave reviews of the Rode NT-3 from

www.dvestore.com, they recommend it strongly as a low-budget
hypercardioid for overhead booming for DV. It seems to be a good buy,
although there are complaints about its weight.

Has anyone used one for booming? Do you think I would hear enough
difference in the sound to justify the purchase? I also double as the
music composer and recordist for the group, so how does this mic
perform in the studio (for instance, compared to the NT1-A, I have one
of those already)? I would be recording either direct to a digidesign
mbox or through a Yamaha mg16/4, out the inserts, and into the mbox.

Thanks a lot. -- Matt G.

indoors mainly ,the octava mc 012 hc will fit you nice -about 170 $ 2 like
that will give you opportunity recording stereo fx and follies
akg 300b +93 capsul can olso work for you its close to your price range
check the www.tapers.com
there are allot of used stuff changing hands and usually its in excellent
condition ( the tapers are very accurate with their main hobby tools)

I agree with Oleg get the Octava I just got one and it is good for the
price www.sound-room.com is the place to buy from there is a recent
post regarding this mic if you want more info just search for it. I
would also recommend the Roge NTG1 shotgun microphone. It is about
275.00 and sounds similar to a Sanken Cs-3 with is a 1300.00
microphone. Just my 2 cents

It's time to get the ear wax removed from your ears again, Oleg.
Once a day should be adequate, and then you might be able to keep up with
the rest of us.

Hmmm, I guess that's why I post considerably less often than you.
I'm out there doing it whilst you're busy talking about it.

do you know what is a hot spot ( not one that you have in your head ) ?
so we have it here on every location we shoot ( in Tel Aviv) , so I can
contribute my opinion about ntg shit or about any thing else I have
between the takes .
