I-Power 520 Batteries

How are these batteries compared to the I-power 500? Are people seeing
longer life?

I don't like the 520's. I have 8 of them and I don't get anymore
length of time out of them then I do with my 40 ipower 500 batteries,
in fact a few of them are even less. For now I'll stick with the
500's.

weird! It was stated by the manufacturer through a post here that this
new 520 iPowers were much more reliable and consistent...!

I understand that the 520's are selected from the better 500's. We
found no difference in capacity here but we only tested two samples of
the 520's In fact, the 520's measured a little less than the 500's but
the difference was in the noise. Keep in mind 520 is only 4% more than
500. In a 4 hour discharge that's only 10 minutes more.

... I'll add that the Ultralife I can buy locally from RS Components
are packaged far from air tight, in small zip bags.
That's maybe why I had a pretty deceiving experience with them (and
not way to return them). And here they cost about $15 each!
The Ultralife that came with Lectro transmitters had a nice sturdy air-
tight package and were 100% after a couple of years.

Also IIRC, the idea with the 520 is that they are "all" pretty near
520, consistently + they are more realiable in general, have a more
usable (for us) shutdown threshold, etc

Sorry for the delayed response as I was away suddenly on a family
matter.

In the past the 500mAh batteries would range from 470 to 520mAh.
Now the 500mah will range from 470 to 510. The 520 will range from 510
to 550mAh.

The 520 rating is a little conservative. Better to have a little more
gas in the tank, than a little less than the gauge says. The actual
capacity of the 520 is 720mAh. The hidden capacity is protected by the
cutoff, and is needed to increase reliability.

So there will be some 500s that stand up well to the 520s. Based on
run time and current draw, some customers will never be able to tell
the difference. Because they are lucky enough to avoid the duds and
their devices are low current draw, and the required run times are
short. Please recharge as frequently as is convenient to extend
battery life.

The 520s are a higher grade of raw materials than the 500s, but a
major factor in the improved reliability of the 520s is the process of
precision balancing of the cells.

iPower will be shipping the 520s in a 4-bay caddy. The batteries are
very delicate, and premature failure can be helped along by shorting
batteries in a loose pile. The 4 bay caddy will always protect the
terminals, and is great for meeting flight requirements and battery
management, and the first use date will be visible at a glance. This
will add $00.25 to the MSRP, but we believe this will have an impact
on overall reliability.
