Hi I'll be shooting on RED CAM in about a week's time. Just like to
find out more about the audio connections. I check out the manual and
it states the polarity of the TA3M inputs are pin 1 (ground), pin 2
(positive), pin 3 (negative). Then I check out Remote Audio's ENG
Breakaway Cables and they are selling two kinds of RED CAM breakaway
cables, one is with a Line - Tape pad, my question is, is it necessary
for me? I'm using a SD302 mixer by the way. If yes, what is the
voltage resistor inside the cable, and how is it linked? I am making
my own cables=)
Thanks very much.

A standard XLR>TA3 without any pad will work fine as long as the RED
is build 16 and up. Just remember that while an XLR is

1 2

3

a TA3 is

1 3

2

Since the 302 has menu adjustable output levels by DB you should have no
problems finding an appropriate level "somewhere" via trial and error that
works with any build and audio board revision on the RED.

You will need to find out if the RED has the upgraded audio boards.
All the RED cameras were called back for an upgrade, but some people
might not have done it yet. The original audio boards required the
padded cables.

also, if you have time you can make a TA5 -> minijack adapter, so you
can listed to the line out audio and not the headphone jack.
Andy Turrett posted this on another thread about RED audio:

TA5 to Mini Adapter Cable
TA5 Mini
Pin 1 Left (hot) ----------- Tip
Pin 2 Ground ------------- Sleeve
Pin 4 Right (hot)--------- Ring
