Hi All !!

Whats the exact difference between a sound mixer and a sound editor ?.
Who is more important, does it depend on the sound effects involved ?.

Thanx

A location sound mixer primarily records the actor's dialogue during
the filming (production phase).

A sound editor assembles (edits) the sound (dialogue, sound effects,
foley, adr & music) to match the edited picture. Often there are more
than one sound editor and then they tend to specialize in one sound
area like music or dialogue etc.

Re-recording sound mixers are the final stage where all the stems
(dialogue, music, efx etc.) are combined and altered (where necessary)
to produce the final "mix" until the "lock" is reached and no further
changes are done.

Take a look at the end credits on a DVD (easy to pause and rerun) and
you will be able to get an idea of the various jobs done by the crew
of a particular show. Eventually you will get an idea of what is
common of shows of various sizes (budgets).
