I see this on Sundance or IFC over the past year or so. A french movie
with this narrative.

A guy drives from Paris with his wife to pick up his kids to bring back
after summer vacation. He's drinking from early in the day, stops
numerous times to get a drink. His wife gets pissed and while he's in a
bar takes a cab to the train station, and on to the kids.

The guy gets drunker, picks up a hitch-hiker that turns out to be a
prison escapee. Fearing his attack our hero kills the convict.

He then finds his wife is in a hospital, has been raped and beaten. It
turns out she was assaulted by the guy he killed in the earlier scenes.

Anybody know the name of this thing?

Argghhh. I have seen this film twice (or nearly twice).
They are traveling toward Bordeaux. The film is not new -
at least 20 years old. But I can't remember the name. At
the train station, the wife meets what seems to be a nice
man, who turns out to be the rapist.

Infuriating isn't it. I saw this on TV a couple of months ago and I
can't remember the title or the names of the actors.

Wonderful. My subconscious had had me look up the actor
Alain Delon, and of course, I found nothing. It was really
pointing to the actor Alain Dion, whose name I must have
seen in the credits of the film and for which I substituted
the well known actor Alain Delon.
