The Loved One (1965)

Just saw this the other night. Very funny movie - Great cast but unfortunately the very talented Robert Morse (I liked him in _How to succede in Business Without Really Trying_) is rather miscast as the English poet in Los Angeles - he does his best however.
Anjanette Comer is a charmer as Aimee Thanatogenous and Rod Steiger is a riot as Mr. Joyboy as is Ayllene Gibbons as his very obese and greedy mother. Many famous names in the supporting cast and director Tony Richardson keeps the whole thing moving at a rollicking pace.

Makes me want to go back and read the novel again.

There's an echo around here somewhere. And, Dave, you could have mentioned the caterer who did a legendary bang-up job. Yeah, yeah, the sets and Haskell Wexler. Just trying to save some time.

One of the best black comedies I've ever seen.

That was my favorite role for him as well, but I loved him comparing
teeth with Terry-Thomas in _Where Were You When the Lights Went Out?_.

Regarding the catering - it just crossed my mind that Tony Richardson seemed to have had an obsession with food. Remember the famous eating scene in _Tom Jones_?

So what? I don't get the connection.
