Dick Miller played two parts in Roger Corman's APACHE WOMAN (1955)--an Indian and one of the town posse. But he wasn't the lead.

Dont' know of any others and I've seen a zillion '50s westerns.

I can think of a couple of B-Westerns where Buster Crabbe and Bob Steele
played lookalike good and bad guys. But that was the 40s.

For lead actors as Indian warriors all that comes to mind is Burt
Lancaster and Charles Bronson, and I think we would have noticed.

I guess we've drifted somewhat from the OP's original question (the answer to which in my case is - "I don't know.") but Roy Rogers played dual roles in _Jesse James at Bay_ and _Billy the Kid Returns_.

I recall Jack Palance played an Apache warrior in _Arrowhead_ - Long time since I've seen it but I'm pretty sure he didn't play a jailer as well.

Mel Brooks played Governor Le Petomane and an Indian in his western movie.

Was Jack Lemmon in it?

Jack Lemmon was only in one Western as far as I know _Cowboy_ and neither he nor his costar Glenn Ford played an Indian warrior or a jailer.

Now you got me goin'.

I started thinking of the weird one's. Not Bronson or Lancaster, but
Rock Hudson or Elvis. An indian and a jailer. IMDB will list all the
roles, even the "un-credited" one's. I even thought of Sam Waterson,
who actually played and indian in Eagle's Wing, but that was '79 a he
didn't get into the game until the mid-60s. Still looking. Any more
hints?

Well if you're looking for off-beat casting I know both Joey Bishop and Trevor Howard have both played Indians - not in the same movie.

Bruce Cabot in a 1950's B-grade Western?

Can't find a reference, though.

I don't recall the Trevor Howard miscast, but he certainly
had the bone structure.

Stone me.

See question # 10.

10. In which 1950s western did a well known character actor play two
different parts one as an Indian warrior, the other as a
jailer?*

He was a well-known character-actor.

I didn't say he was miscast but if I was a casting director Trevor Howard wouldn't be the first name to spring to mind for playing an Indian. Actually he does well in the role - The movie is _Windwalker_ http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0081760/ and it's a good one.

He went from "lead" to "character-actor". That certainly changes it.

It sure does. We were all barking up the wrong tree. It opens up a whole new range - Let's start with George "Gabbby" Hayes (perhaps not!).

Not Michael Pate? Not that well known maybe, but often played an Indian.
Too much to check on imdb.
Walter Brennan?
Dirk Bogarde?
Larry Storch?

Jerry Lewis donned warpaint and Indian costume in My Friend Irma Goes West.

I don't think he was a jailer, though.

"The Indian Fighter" (1955) in which Hank Worden (lead actor?) played
both the roles of Crazy Bear and the Guardhouse Keeper.
