Whose film recommendations are you most likely to follow?

I would say Joe Gillis. I have consistently enjoyed his/her
recommendations, especially of some of the '60s work of Joseph Losey.

Brian told me to see "Mr. Arkadin." Now it's true I haven't seen it
yet, but when I do, I will really enjoy it & Brian will have been
right.
I also take Frank's recommendations to watch some older movies (if I
haven't seen them already).

For me, about as good as it gets is someone whose strong recommendation
virtually guarantees that I'll find something above average about the
movie, i.e., confirming that the recommender wasn't on speed. (But
it's *always* hit-or-miss whether my enthusiasm afterwards will equal
theirs.) Fwiw, quite a few writers, both on and off the ng, reach that
threshold for me.
Meanwhile, there is, of course, Joe Gillis... (There's a bounty for
saying that, right?)

It's really freaky. I just saw the BBC movie "The Blackheath
Poisonings" (with the great Judy Parfit--in fact, I would say that
Judy Parfit & Michael Kitchen are the most enjoyable actors in the
