I was going to say he's officially retired, until I took a look at
IMDb to see when his last film was made. Turns out he's currently in
production on something called 'Moll Flanders', which doesn't seem to
be based directly on Defoe's novel. But with Barry Humphries playing a
character called 'Mrs. Needham', it doesn't sound like a complete
change-of-pace for its director.

He gave a pretty good performance in Tony Richardson's 'Dead Cert' a
year or two after 'Savage Messiah', then dropped off the face of the
earth far as film acting went. Maybe he went on the stage; maybe he
went into banking; maybe he went loony like James Fox and started to
walk the land in sackcloth and ashes, predicting Armageddon (Jerry
Bruckheimer's version). Lotsa probabilities.
