It may well be the funniest hour and ten minutes in sound movies.
"Do you know a man by the name of LaFong? Carl LaFong? Capital L,
small a, Capital F, small o, small n, small g.
LaFong. Carl LaFong."
"You're drunk!" "Yeah, and you're crazy! But I'll be sober tomorrow,
and you'll be crazy for the rest of your life!"

appreciate the info, will definitely check it out.
Where's my kumquats!
I've loved "It's A Gift" passionately for many years-- I'm given to
quoting the "Carl LaFong" routine at the drop of a hat, causing
consternation on the part of any non-Fieldsians in earshot
(philistines!)-- and one of its myriad delights is that it can still
surprise me on occasion. We watched the DVD recently for the first
time in quite a while and when we got to the scene wherein the guy
we've come to know as the Kumquat Man comes up behind Fields, who's
fiddling with the engine of his balky car, and bellows "WHAT'S THE
MATTER, ENGINE TROUBLE?", thereby making Fields jump about a foot in
the air-- well, I just about fell out of my chair. I'd forgotten that
bit, and I really can't explain why I found it so funny. But then,
great humor never needs to be explained, and for the right sort of
mind, this film contains some of the greatest humour ever captured on
celluloid.
