Pakistan bans Indian channels lest they corrupt Pakistan. Muslims
will never compromise with their ideology.

Ban on Indian Channels - Patriotism or Hypocrisy?

Karim Khan

It has been over a month that Indian entertainment TV channels were
ordered to be blocked by cable operators in Pakistan. The reason
given was that they are polluting the socio-cultural environment of
Pakistanis. Now, the Punjab Assembly presented a resolution for
blocking cartoon channels that show Indian cartoons, which allegedly
are corrupting the minds of Pakistani children. The resolution lost
to majority's support of the assembly members, who rejected the
assumption. Now people who are wailing about Indian entertainment are
either too patriotic or outright hypocrites.

One thing that shows more hypocrisy, or direct traditional enmity
toward India, in the cry for blocking the channels is that only
Indian entertainment is assumed to be corrupting the audience. Many
Pakistani channels are directly copying the style and content of
Indian channels, especially in fashion and music as well as in
dramas: there is nudity, foul language, babble, and all the nonsense
that we see in some Indian channels. In fact, some Pakistani programs
(actually rip-offs) are worse than the Indian ones in terms of
language and manners.

It is interesting to note that some Pakistani channels even show
Indian music and entrainment programs and play Indian songs in
background. They are not banned or listed as black sheep. On the
other hand, English movie, TV, and cartoon channels are exempted from
the list of "bad channels". Is not an indication of pandering the
west while jealously turning away from our neighbor?

The fact that the recent resolution in Punjab Assembly, asking for
ban on Indian cartoon channels, failed to gather majority's support
also proves that even the government itself is not all anti-Indian
entertainment. Only a particular group seems to be targeting India,
maybe to distract attention from its own wrongs. To all those who
think of Indian channels as corrupting our youth, the simple question
to consider is: will it help our youth grow better if we ban any
entertainment on TV at all and instead impose an Orwellian
environment of growth that rules by fear and not by maturity of
understanding?

Patrotism or hypocrisy- it is sad. A number of wannabe singers and
artists from Pkistan are participating in musical competitions and
are receiving appplause without any discrimination.Similarly noted
singers from Pakistan are acting as judges in these talent hunt
programs , who are always well meaning and open minded. . I wish
pakistan takes a cue and lifts the ban sooner than later.

A ban on information of any source is a form of mind forming having
humans think like the stronger other thinks ,and thus "humans are
formed from birth to believe the stronger others with everything
within a culture"leaving most humans not knowing it happened and are
filled with the emotional feelings triggered by cultural reinforcing

Dear Sir,

Banning the Indian channels maybe either Patriotism or Hypocrisy. But
how about Afghani channels?

Although Pakistan's government has suitable relation with Afghan
government. But still Afghani channels are banned in Pakistan. It is
really questionable issue.

Karim Khan

I didn't know about the Afghani channels. But sicne you asked, it is
clearly a political move. YOu are left with the chioce to mull over
who is doing it and what purposes are served.

Even in India we have certain groups who want to ban anything and
everything that's connected to Pakistan.

It's real sad situation if any nation is ready to cross continents
and shake hands with other faraway nations but doesn't want to make
good and cordial relations with its immediate neighbors.

Very interesting indeed. A country that is known worldwide for
highest viewership of Porno material on the internet (as well as
through CDs + DVDs) may, for some hours at least, need to know the
world outside their closed walls through Indian news channels. But it
seems that after "reading" through the porno material provided by
their hero in the 1400 years old book they are encouraged to "watch"
the action of the western heroes.

And it is not a joke that this country still celebrates their victory
(in reality a very humiliating defeat) over India in 1971 war!!!????

But yes, the risk of millions of eunuchs in Pakistan getting "over
excited" by watching their favorite TV anchor Begum Nawazish Ali (a
celebrity eunuch in Pakistan participating in Big Boss serial of
Color TV Channel of India) also need to be taken into account.
