HARYANA GIRL KANISHTHA IS NEW 'FEMINA MISS INDIA'

Jhajjar - A 22-year-old promising model, Kanishtha Dhankhar, whose
native village is Kasni here, has been crowned Pantaloons Femina Miss
India World 2011 at the grand finale of the mega event organised at
Mehboob Studio in Mumbai. Now, she will represent India at the Miss
World contest slated to be held in September this year. Kanishtha,
who is a student of HR College in Mumbai, has earlier clinched many
titles in this event like Body Beautiful, Miss Ramp Model, Miss Water
Baby and Beautiful Legs. It is for the first time that a girl from
Haryana has succeeded in winning the most prestigious title.
Kanishtha belongs to a family of defence services personnel. Her
father, Raj Singh Dhankar, has been serving as an officer in Indian
Navy while her grandfather, Matu Ram Dhankar, is retired Commander
from the same armed forces. Besides, Kanishtha's mother, Kusum
Dhankar, is a lecture in a society's college in Delhi whereas
grandmother -- Chawli Devi -- has served as 'sarpanch' of the
village.
Kanishtha's grand parents --- Matu Ram Dhankar and Chawli Devi -- who
have been living in the village here, are excited over the success of
their grand daughter and thank the Almighty for realising her dream
in the first endeavour. "Winning the title of Miss India was the
dream of Kanishtha who had told us about that over two months ago
when she came to the village along with her parents. At that time,
she had also put a proposal before her parents for getting special
training to take part in the Miss India contest," said Matu Ram
Dhankar while interacting with mediapersons at his house in Kasni
village, adding that since the parents already knew her ability,
talent and interest hence they did not take time in allowing her for
the training.
He remarks that it is a matter of immense pride not only for the
residents of Kasni village and Jhajjar district but also the entire
State that their laadli has proved that Haryanvi daughters are not
far behind any one despite the State being lowest in the birth rate
index as compared to other States. Concerned over the declining sex
ratio in Haryana, Matu Ram opines that this achievement of his
granddaughter will indeed prove instrumental in bringing a
significant change in the mentality of the Haryanvis in the matter of
gender discrimination. He informs that parents of Kanishtha resides
in the national Capital but take time out to come and visit the
village often.
