Indraprasth aka New Delhi - Filmmaker and director of Cineyug Fims
Pvt Ltd Karim Morani, an accused in the multi-crore 2G scam who is
currently lodged in Tihar jail, on Tuesday requested a city court to
provide him a cooler in his cell on grounds of his ill health and hot
weather conditions. Special CBI judge OP Saini, however, turned down
the request of a cooler but asked the jail superintendent to consider
Morani's medical condition and do the appropriate arrangements
saying, "Considering his medical condition, the jail superintendent
may place him in a cell which is less dusty and comparatively cooler.
The jail superintendent is directed to do the needful."

Senior counsel Sidharth Luthra, appearing for Morani, said his client
is suffering from heart ailment and other medical problems. Luthra
added that Morani is facing problems due to dust in the jail and he
be shifted in a cell which is less dusty and cooler than his present
prison cell. Morani requested the court saying, "I have medical
problems and I find difficulty in breathing because of the dust and
hot weather. It is very hot, please provide a cooler."

Meanwhile, Morani also moved an application seeking permission to
sign documents pertaining to mutual funds and other bank documents.
The court took note of Morani's plea and asked the CBI to file areply
on June 9. Morani is lodged in jail since May 30 along with 13 other
accused in the 2G scam including former Telecom minister A Raja, DMK
MP Kanimozhi and Swan Telecom promoter Shahid Usman Balwa.

The court also asked CBI to expedite supplying full set of documents
to 2G spectrum allocation scam accused after their proper scrutiny
and complete the process within three days or else face fines for
delaying the process. "Complete the process of supplying deficit
documents to defence counsel to speed up the scrutiny process in
three days otherwise I am going to impose a cost of Rs 50,000 on you
(CBI) per day for the period of delay," judge Saini said.

While directing CBI and the defence counsel to wind up the scrutiny
of documents in three days, the court told the prosecution and
defence counsel "how the trial in the case will begin? It has been
two months now and still the scrutiny process is going on. Look at
their (accused) faces; they sit in front of me for the whole day.
They have hired you (counsel) to get them out of jail and with the
pace this case is moving, it seems they have to remain in jail
forever", the judge said. He further asked the counsel to find a way
to speed up the scrutiny process so that the trial in the case could
start from the first week of July.
