Jammu - Bharatiya Janata Party president Nitin Gadkari said on Friday
that before extending 'red carpet' to Kashmiri youth, who crossed
over to Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) to receive arms training 20
years ago, the Jammu and Kashmir Government should think of awarding
permanent citizenship to the refugees from west Pakistan as the same
has been denied to them for over 60 years now.
The BJP chief also clarified that it was not appropriate to compare
the present situation in Jammu and Kashmir with that of in Punjab as
the Khalistan movement there had ended while war against terrorism in
Jammu and Kashmir is still on.
Omar had taken strong exception to the stand taken by the BJP -- an
ally of the Akali Dal-led coalition Government in Punjab over similar
rehabilitation package for the Sikh youth, who are stuck in Pakistan
and are willing to return home.
Addressing a Press conference after offering prayers inside the cave
shrine of Mata Vaishnodevi in Jammu, Gadkari said, "instead of
offering red carpet to Kashmiri militants from PoK the State
Government should first of all give citizenship rights to the west
Pakistani refugees".
"Over three lakh people have been denied their citizenship rights.
They can not purchase land anywhere in Jammu and Kashmir and cannot
work in State Government departments. Why they have been denied
permanent status in the State," the BJP chief said while criticizing
the Omar-led coalition Govern-ment in the State.
Reacting to Omar's statement on BJP's stand on return of Sikh youth,
Gadkari clarified that the Khalistan move has ended in Punjab while
the State of Jammu and Kashmir was still grappling with terrorism and
such a move would legitimise infiltration which is already increasi.
