In most major cities, the film was released in 70mm prints. I assume
that because of frame width and height difference, the 35mm projectors
won't be able to run the 70mm print. So, the screening theaters, like
Shiela in Delhi, would already had or might have specially installed
the bigger size projectors. Since owners of theaters in smaller
cities
could not afford to buy 70mm projectors, I assume that the film was
also released on 35mm prints (that is 70mm negatives were used to
print on 35mm positives)
Last week I saw the film from a VCD souce (3-Disk set, released by
MoseBaer) and was surprised to find that that the video transfer was
made from a CinemaScope print. The CinemaScope negative and
positives are made on standard 35mm film. However, because of
wide angle lense, the image on the negative or positive print, when
viewed without the de-compressing lense looks elongated.
The question I have is, was the film shot with multiple cameras -
70mm
as well as in CinemaScope format ? I am almost certain that there is
no CinemaScope format for 70mm raw stock.
I could not read the Censors Certificate. However, it was in Black
color
background and White lettering (i.e.'REVISED). The ending was Thakur
beating Gabbar with shoes, which had nails.
Thanks
