Pune: In his third innings at Yerawada Central Prison,
53-year-old actor Sanjay Dutt will be identified as qaidi
number 16656. Brought to Yerawada early Wednesday
morning, the actor has been lodged in a separate cell in
security barrack number three, which officials say has a
"pleasant natural setting" with lots of trees dotting the
open area around it.

Dutt was shifted from Mumbai's Arthur road jail to Pune's
high-security Yerawada central prison to serve the
remainder of his five-year prison term (of 42 months)
under the Arms Act for possessing illegal weapons. Prison
officials said that Dutt reached Yerawada at around 7 am
on Wednesday. "Except top officials, no one was aware of
Dutt's shifting from Mumbai to Pune. The superintendent
of the Yerawada central prison Yogesh Desai was present
when Dutt and another convict Yusuf Nulwalla were brought
inside the jail," an officer said. Dutt and Nulwalla were
brought inside the jail from the back gate, which is
known as 'Maadi' gate, the official added.

The actor had spent six nights at Arthur Road jail since
his surrender on May 16. On Wednesday, officials said
since Dutt was brought to Yerawada in an early morning
operation, he could not sleep properly and spent most of
the day catching up on sleep inside his cell. He had his
lunch in the evening as his home-cooked meal could not
reach the prison in the afternoon.

Sanjay Dutt has been kept in a separate cell in security
barrack number three. "The cell is a 10x8 room. He has
been allowed a table fan. Besides, he has been allowed
home food for one month. A prominent food business firm
owner in Pune, who is also a close friend of Sanjay Dutt,
will be providing him home-cooked food for a month as per
Dutt's request." He said that Dutt's friend from Pune had
brought his tiffin on Wednesday. But the tiffin reached
the jail late and Dutt had his lunch only in the evening.
