It's too bad the other movies were not as good. Episode 2 was adequate
(damning with faint praise), and Episode 1 was complete rubbish; I
doubt I'll ever watch it again. In retrospect, the prequel story would
have worked better like this:
Phantom Menace = delete completely
Episode 1 = Discovering anakin as a teen + the start of the wars
Episode 2 = ongoing wars & developing the relationships between Anakin,
Obi-Wan, and Pa'dme'. Plus showing the inner-workings of Yoda's Jedi
Council & Palpatine's Senate.
Episode 3 = Episode 3 as filmed
Basically, follow the same pattern laid out by the original trilogy.
Start of war. Middle of war. End of war. I think that would have
been far better than what we ended up getting.
:-)
Anyway, Episode 3 == a great tragedy.
I'll buy the movie when it comes out on hi-def Blu-Ray.
Definitely a keeper.

Empire is the best of the Old Trilogye, but if you subtract the
nostalgia bias, and look at it objectively, it's no better than Episode
3. Empire has several flaws and slow spots where my attention wanders.
