Actually, the look of the film was stolen from H.R. Giger, who designed
the original Alien. If you've seen some of his landscape and
architecture paintings, the whole film looks very similar.
When I first saw the trailer, I thought somebody has finally done
justice to Giger's work. Then I was shocked he had nothing to do with
the production.

It doesn't look very Giger to me, although it does look like it was
influenced by Giger's work. The Riddick designs are much less organic
than Giger's macabre visions. The Riddick stuff looks to me like a
little bit of Giger, a little bit of Batman, and more than a little
bit of Stargate.
