Eh, who cares? "The Class" won for best new comedy in 2007 and
"Moonlight" won for best new drama in 2008, and both were immediately
cancelled. _Awards_ _mean_ _nothing_ when it comes to TV and a show
getting renewed. Why put the actors through accepting an award (Getting
their hopes up. "Smile. Smile.") and then getting cancelled?
Bah, The People's Choice Awards TV categories are a waste of time, even
more of a waste of time than the Emmys. Ratings are all that matter.

>Favorite movie: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Star Trek,
>The Hangover, The Proposal, Twilight.
The 'people' made these choices for favorite movie?
Did these people know that Transformers was the #1 movie at the box office
this year? Did they know that 'Up' was #3?
The people have decided they liked The Proposal and Twilight more than
Up. It could be worse. They could be rating Ayn Rand novels higher
than the Great Gatsby or The Scarlet Letter on those terrible "best
novels as voted by the people" lists.
>The people have decided they liked The Proposal and Twilight more than
>Up.
I tend to think that 'the people' voted with their dollar. The people might
have poor taste to have made Transformers the #1 movie of the year, but that
is what they did...and 'the people' of the world chose Ice Age as an even
better movie.
In theory, the "dollar vote" is cast on the way into the movie, and
the People's Choice vote, on the way out. Maybe actually seeing
TRANSFORMERS transformed the first election-result into the second.

YOUR taste at work...

Possibly, but I bet you that more people went back and saw Transformers a
second time than went back for The Proposal a second time. I'd also wager
that more people will go see the next Transformer movie than will go see the
next Twilight movie. However bad Transformers was, it kept people coming in
through word of mouth and will bring lots of people back for the next one.
This is sort of an oddball mix. Of the group, only Lady Gaga has
actually 'broken out' (eg, put out an album and met with success).
Lambert, Allen, and Boyle's albums haven't been released yet. If they
come out and tank, that would make a win rather
embarrassing...although of all of them Boyle's album seems to be the
one most likely to be successful (based on her ranking as Amazon's
biggest pre-seller ever). And wasn't Lady Gaga around last year?
Don't know about Lovato, except she's a Disney product.
Afaik, THE PROPOSAL isn't a "ride" movie like TRANSFORMERS ...so,
there's no surprise it'd get fewer repeat riders. As for word-of-
mouth, TRANSFORMERS 2 seems to have enjoyed a first-week falloff of
over 60% ...so any news being spread like wildfire can't have been all
that favorable. Instead, TRANSFORMERS seems to have a fan base...
(whose loyalty to TRANSFORMERS 3 we can't predict, although yes,
they'll no doubt get their chance to show it...)
If you just want to look at falloff, Harry Potter and Twilight fell as much
or more than Transformers. Does that mean they all such and the 'favorite
movie' should really go to Paranormal Activity?
If demonstrated good word-of-mouth were the criterion, then yeah, I
think P.A. just might be the year's winner. And I'd think even its
narrow audience ought to comprise a more "deserving" data-point than,
say, some flick that everybody saw but nobody liked...
So the key to being 'favorite movie' is to have a really s.low start?
> And I'd think even its
>narrow audience ought to comprise a more "deserving" data-point than,
>say, some flick that everybody saw but nobody liked...
But lots of people did like Transformers. it was the #1 movie for the year
and (boxofficemojo) 42% of the viewers rating it gave it an A. 42% of the
Transformer audience is about 100% of The Proposal's audience, so clearly
more people liked Transformers even if the comic book / sci-fi cult didn't.
"Lost" should be either drama or sci-fi/fantasy. It shouldn't be in
both categories.

WTF is "TV obsession"?

Really? "Eastwick" wasn't picked up for the back 9 and "V"? People
voted to nominate it before it even aired?

Voting on a favorite franchise? Dumb.

Agreed.

> WTF is "TV obsession"?
It's one of those goofy People's Choice Award made-up categories. I
take it to mean a show that you absolutely refuse to miss an episode of,
sort of "Must See TV."

PCA winners have been summarily cancelled in the past. In this case,
it's just that the cancellation beat the awards vote.

Gives you a lot of faith in what you get to pick from, doesn't it?

Much like the People's Choice Awards in general.
