THEM is a 2007 French victims-thriller that's recently been released
on DVD (and, btw, on Sundance Channel on-demand). Based on Actual
Events, THEM is both competent and interesting... but suffers from
unavoidable deja vu, because the interesting stuff arrives late, and,
until then, you've seen this movie a hundred times before. Still, its
mere 77-minute runtime helps. Somewhat recommended.

I finally got around to seeing Trick R Treat last week and I liked it
enough to have wished I'd seen it when it more seasonally correct. I
wonder if any of the release delays and related problems had to do
with this being one of those rare horror movies where the kids take it
as badly as the adults (with that Pythonesque sight gag dispatching of
one particular youngster). I'm not a fan of anthology movies but
maybe because with Trick R Treat there was a linking of the stories
(without any pretensions towards the Tarantino-esque) it wasn't a
problem.

I though TrT was well enough done in its production values, but its
stories engaged me only as slightly diverting curios. The one and
extreme exception was the mass-murder on the bus, where all we see of
those particularly sympathetic victims are their Halloween masks ...a
painfully sharp visual metaphor, and one of the more strikingly
poignant images from recent flicks, imo (...even if only
accidentally).

I stayed out of the LA sewers after that first them... great horror
movie for the early 1950's
