Championship Color Guards @ DCI

Following up on what I mentioned the other day in another thread....
I marched with a couple of top three corps in the late seventies/early
eighties and I was surprised to be informed that I was part of the guard
that took the best color guard caption at DCI finals for a year or two.
I'm pretty sure that Randy Gardner mentioned SCV winning this caption in
'78, and I think someone mentioned BD winning best guard in '82 (?). I'm
surprised at myself for not remembering which guard won during the years
that I marched so I'd like some help clearing up my poor excuse for a
memory. %-)
Could someone please post the name of the corps who took the color guard
caption during the DCI era, from 1972 - present? If you are sure about a
year or two, please post it so that I may compile a list. If you have a
list of all 25 winning guards already prepared and can save me the work,
then more power to you -- I'll buy you a beer in Toledo! :)

Did DCI always have a guard award? I can't remember any trophy for
that caption in the late 70s and very early eighties. I know that the
guard, in the late 70s and in 1980, was given a score out of 2.0, but
I don't think it was added into the corps total. One could look at
those scores and recall who won but still, I don't think that there
was a guard caption trophy until mid 80s. Anyone else care to
comment? Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I did some research. I got out my old DCI yearbooks. The earlier
yearbooks that I have (1976-81) were more factual. They gave complete
recaps and the reviews stated more statistics such as the caption
awards. Starting in the early 80s, the yearbooks became more
"artistic" rather than factual. Therefore there is not a lot of info
that I found, but here it is anyway:
1976- no mention of CG
1977- same
1978- a 2 point color guard score is now on the recap, but the score
is not added into the corps GE score. Scoring a perfect 2.0 were SCV,
and 27th Lancers. Note: all the top 12 scored 1.7 or higher.
1979- same as 78 except the guards scoring 2.0 were Devils, Phantom,
and 27th. Scores ranged from 1.6-2.0.
1980- No more CG score on the recaps but the review of Finals states
that 27th won the High Guard trophy.
1981- The review was very detailed but no mention of high CG.
1982- Again, nothing. The yearbook gives very little information now.
I can not remember hearing a high guard caption at finals. But my
memory is failing me now!
1983- same
1984- Garfield won I think???
1985- Spirit won, I know for a fact, but there is no mention of high
CG in the yearbook. There is no mention of any other caption for that
matter.
Again , like I said, this is not much information. We need someone to
handle statistics on here like they do in baseball!
