This is just for fun. Here's a listing of corps that have won three in a row
and are currently still competing today. Under DCI and DCA, no one has won 4
in a row. I might have missed one or two corps before DCI and DCA started, I'm
not too sure about that one.

It will be interesting to see if the Cavies can win three in a row this coming
year and even though I'm a Brigadier, it will be interesting if the Brigs can
win 4 in a row.
I'm not being arrogant or anything, I just like to look at history and facts
and data.

Statesmen and Brigs tied in '97, Statesmen won in '98, Brigs 99-01.
Sorry, no 3-peat for Empire.

When I walked into that room, the looks on their faces was amazement...
remember in DCA, all corps have a representative check their sheets before
retreat and every corps was locked in there watching this whole thing
transpire. They can only leave as the scores are about to be announced.
No one could believe that caption after caption was still tied...
The last and final tie break... was color guard... (a score which didn't
even get counted in to the final score)
My dear friend, the late George Cowburn from Horseheads, NY was on guard...
he had Bush up...
and for the record.... so there is no confusion.... The tie break system
clearly said that the only way a tie could exist is if all tie breakers
remain tied... Had George had the guards tied... the show would have
remained tied... Co-Champions...
Just so there was no historical confusion and/or controversy 15 years later,
those who wrote the rule (was it sun? really? I don't remember, but that
would be ironic.) made it clear that "the chief judge is to add (.1) one
tenth to the score of the corps that wins the tie break..." So it is
actually incorrect to say that there was a tie that year... but rather "The
tie-break system was required" to select the winner...
How's that for nit picking?
But anyway... that is now an **** asterisk in drum corps history... Wonder
if that is in the upcoming Drum Corps History Book that DCW is publishing
soon?

Yep...and we got bit hard too!!! If I remember correctly, we (Sun) won prelims
that year by about 8 tenths.......BUT.....to both Bush's and Sun's credit, we
were both very good that year, and it could have gone either way. Overall, it
was a great year for both corps. It WOULD have been a 3 peat for Sun if it
wasn't for the "tie break rule"!

Hawthorne Caballeros 72, 73 & 74. In the 1970s, Caballeros won DCA 1970, 72,
73, 74 & 76. Yhey were runner up 77, 78, 79 & 80. Third in 71 behind
Skyliners and Yankee Rebels. Dynasty?
American Legion Nationals:
Skokie Indians 55, 56 & 57.
American Legion Nationals:
Hawthorne Caballeros: 58, 59, 60, 61, 62, 63, and 1964. The "streak" was
snapped by the Rochester Grey Knights Post Crusaders in 1965.

The current Legion Nationals--IMO, it's not the Legion Nationals of
old because it's not in any way connected with the National
Convention. Why isn't it? Why Scranton? Why can't the corps travel
to the convention like in the old days? Especially now with Sr corps
coming in from all over, what's wrong with the eastern corps doing a
little traveling? Sure have DCA wherever in the East, but why not go
to the convention site for Legion instead of Scranton?
this is strictly a case of something is better than nothing...
What can I say Frank... my old friend... as we've all learned in the last
month... life is not always fair.
I'm just pleased that the Legion is cooperating and still recognizing the
strong roots of drum corps firmly entrenched in it's history...
they even cooperated this coming year by agreeing to forego the normal
Legion Championship in Scranton and declare the highest American Finishing
corps at DCA Finals in Scranton the American Legion Champion...
I also would like to thank the American Legion - The National Committees,
the Dept. of PA, NY and NJ for all their help and support in trying to get a
joint tribute in NYC in the near future...

The St Vincents Cadets of Bayonne NJ went undefeated 1951-1952. In that time
period they won both years VFW and American Legion Nationals as well as the NJ
State Championships for both Veterans Associations.
The Chicago Cavaliers won the VFW Nationals in 1961, 62 & 63, going undefeated
in 1961.

There's a bass drum in the Wisconsin Veteran's museum with the Legion
seal, those dates and the locations of nationals on it, doesn't give
the name of the corps but I'm sure it was something either the Legion
gave them, or their post gave them or the corps made themselves.

Are you sure about VFW starting that early? I thought they didn't
start holding contests til the late 20's or early 30's.

Ok, would there then be a big show that everyone goes to to replace
Legion nationals on the weekend it usually falls on?
