Does anyone have any helpful hints on how to
paint China silk? How do I keep the silk from
becoming stiff? What is the best type of paint to
use?
Thanks,

Robby

Yeah, my guard used spray painted flags one year and they turned out really
good, they weren't stiff at all and they flowed really nice :)

Spray painting is good as long as you don't want a dark rich color (like a tye
dyed look). We painted flags one time and when they were washed after they
dried the design had cracks in it. Also if you use real china SILK you have to
be careful because spray paint can damage the material. If you want rich
colors the best way is to dye paint them with actual silk dye. You can get
supplies at most craft stores or commercial supply stores. You can also paint
poly-china silk with "Textile paint" it doesn't dry stiff. Hope I have been a
help.

I'd sure like to know what kind of spray paint people are using. The time I
tried the flags were way too stiff. If you want to dye flags you must order the
PFP (prepared for printing) flag material from a band catalog. it will "take"
the dye very well and not wash out. forget dying silk gflags that are not PFP
fabric

we've never bought silk from a band catalogue or "PFP" material and have never
had a problem dyeing or painting. we have used just about everything from
regular spray paint to spray paint for dried flowers. and we use rit dye.
before we could afford china silk we even dyed and painted silk essence. it
worked.
