Cartoon Art Museum - San Francisco

In the past few months the museum store at the Cartoon Art Museum in San
Francisco has been transformed into a much large operation in the same
space.

Included in this is a growing selection of manga and anime.

I've been advising them on my lunch breaks as it is a short walk from
work.

Today I dropped in to watch the manager open a box of Boys Love (aka
YAOI) manga. With the Gay Pride parade coming up the manager wants to
get a window display up.

So if you find yourself in San Francisco drop by the store and check it
out.

I thought that yaoi has really not much to do with actual
homosexuality (after all, look at its target audience...and shudder),
and that most real gay men think that it's tacky and exploitative.
I'm open to being proven wrong, though.

Incidentally, if you're ever in the Tokyo area, the Kawasaki city museum
(near Musashi-Kosugi) has excellent manga exhibits.

Some object to it some don't. There is a market, how big I do not know,
for BL manga among gay men, both in the US and Japan.

Thanks.

I'm currently planning a two week trip to Tokyo in October. I'll add
this to the list of places to consider visiting.

I have a table on my web site from my 2007 trip and will be adding many
more items, many with links, to it soon.
