I just pass along the information that I got from San Diego Comic
Convention yesterday. Dyna-Search Inc. along with one of the largest
publishers, Kodansha's Morning/Afternoon (weekly and monthly
manga magazines) Divisions is looking for US based comic artists and
writers.
You can meet the Kodansha editors at the booth 1100-1102 in San Diego
Comic Con during this weekend. Bring your samples as the following:

1) Biography and Photo
2) Synopsis & Overview of characters, themes, settings, story situation
3) Full script & finsihed art

Your profolio will be viewed by the editors. If you like to draw
fan-arts for a long time, don't miss this chance, you work may be printed
in these manga maginazes.
After this weekend in the con, you can also send samples to

Dyna-Search. Inc.
11835 West Olympic Blvd, Suite 825, East Tower
Los Angeles, CA 90064.
Attn: 95EG.

I don't have any relationship with them, I just pass along the
information to any manga artists or writers who interests it.

Another minor question is how many of those ideas went on to become
comics anyway...

I strongly reccomend that you talk to Alan Sinder via email before/during
dealing with Kodansha. He used to work for them, trying to get higher
profile American talents (ie Kyle Baker, Dave Mazzeucchelli) to publish
over there.

Not that Kodansha is this insidious company that you should steer clear
from, but if you want the straight scoop and some good advice, talk to
him. He's extremely knowledgeable about comics in general, and one hell of
a nice guy. His email is:

Two. They were showing off the manga the two guys did. Didn't look like
anything to write home over, IMHO.
