Cascade Mountain Publishing is actively seeking new software products to
publish including games and interactive fiction (IF). These products will
be advertised, packaged and commercially marketed.

Cascade was founded in 1998 by Michael Berlyn and his wife, Muffy McClung
Berlyn, for the purpose of publishing "nicheware" on a worldwide basis,
marketing it via the internet and targeted advertising, and selling it
through the www, phone orders, and other non-retail channels.

The company's launch products are both IF: _Avalon_, by Kevin Wilson; and
_Chameleon_, by Michael and Muffy Berlyn. Each product will be packaged in
the "grand tradition" and will include such niceties as a box, a manual,
some interesting feelies, and a program CD. These launch products are
expected to run on a wide variety of platforms. Full launch is expected to
be in August of 1998, though a limited edition of _Avalon_ may be available
earlier.

Michael Berlyn is the founder of Sentient Software, a pioneer in the IF
field, and is an early implementor of Infocom games (_Suspended_,
_Cutthroats_, _Infidel_, _Fooblitzky_). He is also the author of four
novels, and one helluva bad dancer. Muffy Berlyn is an editor, writer and
designer and has collaborated on many of Berlyn's games, the first being
_Tass_Times_In_Tonetown_.

The Berlyns taught creative writing at Harvard University for two years,
where they learned a lot of neat stuff from their students -- unfortunately,
none of it pertained to writing press releases like this one. The Berlyns
are responsible for approximately 16 games and five novels. Small world
department: Michael Berlyn recently teamed up with Marc Blank to co-author
Zork, the Undiscovered Underground, which was oddly enough, coded by Kevin
Wilson.

It sure is taken by a ski resort in Wiscosin. Is this just another crock?

Todd,

This is not another "crock" as you put it. It is not a crock at all. If
there is another Cascade Mountain Publishing, Inc., who is specializing in
nicheware and was founded by me, I'd like to know.

I'm NOT kidding; CMP is also publishing novels from members of the Science
Fiction Writers of America (SFWA) of which I am a member. These works will
be available through Amazon & Barnes & Noble, as well as electronically for
reading on PDAs.

That's the last time I take my ISP's word for anything. :) I requested the
domain name cascademountain, and they assured my it was as good as mine. Now
they've assured me that cascadepublishing.com is as good as mine.

We'll see.

That's why I included the bendnet.com email address. That, at least,
definitely works.

Hmmm. Since I was one of the few people who gave TextFire the benefit of
the doubt, perhaps I should be ultra-cautious and demand proof that this
is really Mike Berlyn. :)

It is indeed, he just sent me the company specs. This is real stuff, right

Yeah, like the _real_ Whizzard would have the time to post anything, what

Grr... we're already pissed we have to wait till August to get Avalon! I
thought it was going to be out in 2 weeks. Just a couple days ago, I
mentioned to a friend that the game we IF-er's have been waiting years for
would be out in mere days.

YeeeHaaa!! Can I just send you my CC number now so you can ship me all
your titles automagically? <VBG>. I may even become more motivated to
finish up one of my game ideas.

Ditto. I'm very, very worried - now I can't just say, "It's just
freeware. If I don't finish it, I won't feel like I've really MISSED
anything..."

Mike Berlyn: I FORBID you to go under within two years. You WILL still
be around when I'm finally ready to publish... Won't you?
