I suspect that there are no text only adventures being sold these days like
Zork etc but I heard that Scott Adams was working on a new adventure.
Most of the games that claim to be adventures are just games that have you
finding hidden objects in different rooms.
Not much has been created since Myst was released.

If there are any good commercial adventure games then please let me know or
give me a link I can go to.

If you moved to the intfiction.org forum like most of everyone else, then you'd know there are many new commercial releases. Probably most are listed here (along with many free releases): http://www.intfiction.org/forum/viewforum.php?f=19

You could also go to http://ifdb.tads.org/ and search for "tag:commercial".

Thanks Danni and Shadow for the links.

I wish some of the adventure games would come to my local computer games
shop.
I'm looking for adventures that I can play on a PC computer or tablet.
There seems to be a very heavy demand for 3D shooting type games were you
are walking around a room and shooting at some creature. Almost all games
are based on this format. The only other games are The Sims and games where
you need to find objects in a room. There also were simulators but driving
a train around the countryside or sailing a yacht can get boring so they
seem to disappear from the shelves.

I grew up playing Scott Adam adventure games then playing Zork, etc then I
moved on to graphic adventure games like Kings Quest, Police Quest, etc.
the last games seem to be around the Myst period. Can you recommend a good
adventure game?. What I enjoy is exploring lots of rooms that have good
descriptions or good graphics.

Please forgive me my bad temper when I posted the previous post. I have attempted to delete it, but it may well propagate anyhow. I apologize for the ugly sentiment therein.

One game I consider very underrated is 'Mission critical' by Legend
Entertainment. It's somewhat hard to find, and rather dated, but has a
real atmosphere and story to it that sets it apart from most of the more
graphical adventures I've played. (I didn't enjoy Myst much as it seemed
too much like a load of logic puzzles to me.)

For traditional text adventures, I've been playing the Level9 'Silicon
dreams' trilogy. Great games, but only if you can handle the old school
parser (not too bad, but not quite Infocom) and enjoy a challenge! They
have a logic all of their own, which is consistent, but takes a while to
get.

Thanks philicorda.
I did some research on the Level9 'Silicon dreams that you suggested but
it looks very outdated by todays standard with its big sized text and in a
lot of cases won't work on a 64 bit windows 7 operating system.

What I'm seeking is a more up to date adventure and if it has graphics then
that's a bonus. There must be some adventures were you pick up objects and
explore the scenery. If not then there is a gap in the software games
market and it seems that Doom type games dominate the market when it comes
to PC games.

You can play Level9 games on modern operating systems, with nicer text,
using an interpreter called 'Level9'.

Have you ever played a game called 'Outcast' by Infogrames? A company
called 'Good old games' has re-released it and patched to run more
easily. It's kind of a 3d game, but has this sense of the grand adventure
and exploration that I also feel is missing from many modern games.

I took a look at a video of someone playing Outcast by it seems very
similar to many games on the market these days where you have to shoot the
bad guy rather than picking up objects and solving puzzles like.adventures
of the past.
