The player does makes a misstep that kills off the character. They
are told "Would you like to RESTART, RESTORE a saved game or QUIT?"

Wouldn't it be more friendly to new players to know that they could
also UNDO at this point as well? I'd like to change the message to
just say "Would you like to UNDO, RESTART, RESTORE a saved game, or
QUIT?" It's not obvious to me how one does this, though. Can anyone
help?

One way to do this in 5T18 is the following:

When play begins:
choose row with a final response rule of immediately undo rule in
the Table of Final Question Options;
change the final question wording entry to "UNDO".

An alternative method, which gives you much more control over what
final options appear, is to replace the appropriate section in the
template code, with something like:

Section 2 - New Endgame Options (in place of Section SR2/12 - Final
question options in Standard Rules by Graham Nelson)
Table of Final Question Options
final question wording only if victorious topic final
response rule final response activity
"UNDO the last turn" false "undo"
immediately undo rule --
"RESTART" false "restart"
immediately restart the VM rule --
"RESTORE a saved game" false "restore" immediately
restore saved game rule --
"see some AMUSING things to try" true "amusing" --
amusing a victorious player
"QUIT" false "quit"
immediately quit rule --

Of course you'll have to sort out the tab stops in the above, which
posting will almost certainly mangle.
