(This is in reference to the two recent surveys about
minicomps, one aimed at authors and one for players).
GamePlayComp and EnvComp were ranked highly by both
authors and players, so they will both be included.
Where there was a major conflict between player and author
votes, authors were preferred. This means that RoFLComp
(voted low by players but top by authors) will be included,
and the "time" competition won't be (voted top by players;
I probably shouldn't have included it in the original list,
but it's still interesting to see what people voted).
That left three more to select. AnimalComp was voted low
by both, and all the rest had 5 author votes each (excluding
"not likely to enter" voters). The top two player votes
for the competitions were for NPCComp and AbilityComp,
so they are in.
MultiPathComp, SenseComp and MultiComp (for multiple,
swappable PCs) all had a similar number of player votes.
SenseComp had the most "previously entered a minicomp"
author votes, so it seems the most likely one to have
more entries. It also seems a bit more finishable in
three months.
So the final list is:
* RoFLComp (simulation)
* EnvComp (unusual setting)
* AbilityComp (PC with a special ability)
* NPCComp (convincing NPCs)
* SenseComp (PC whose main sense is not sight)
* GamePlayComp (non standard gameplay)
Here are the proposed dates; if anyone is pretty sure they will enter
one of these but the date is a problem for them, please let me know
so I can change things around:
Nov 1 RoFLComp
Dec 15 EnvComp
Feb 1 AbilityComp (RoFLComp ends)
Mar 15 NPCComp (EnvComp ends)
May 1 SenseComp (AbilityComp ends)
Jun 15 GameplayComp (NPCComp ends)
Aug 1 (SenseComp ends)
Sep 15 (GameplayComp ends)
These dates are not "official" yet , though -- there will be a proper
announcement when they are all finalised.
It's hard to know in advance how many entries there will actually be,
but it is an interesting experiment anyway.
Thanks to everyone who voted!
