Thanks,

I would say the same basic principle applies I use for becoming a good
painter, "do 120 bad paintings, and you'll learn something about
painting".....well, I've painted with acrylics and with oils for about 20
years now....and all I've learned has been the result of hitting my head
against the wall. If you want to paint bad enough...I want to encourage
you to hang in their for the duration.
I started to learn blending with using smaller rounds, making the acrylics
a watercolor fluid consistency, and transparently build up layers.....now,
because of the speed with which I paint, I can use it more opaquely...and
with bolder bigger brushes. I think one problem is knowing color mixing so
well, that you can match accurately those edges that will meet such that
variations are minimal and won't catch the eye.
The other thing is....if you get beyond mimetic art....or trying for a
photograph's "smooth" blending, and think of paint more as used for
"painting"...like an impressionist painterly realism..then it is that much
more easier to imitate oils with acrylics.
Other than that....keep looking at your favorite large bookstores. Books
are a lot like guitars. If one is a serious guitar player, you don't
usually order one without first sitting it upon your lap, strumming it and
inspecting it. You have to be zealously guarded about what you want to
learn, and to do that you need to flip through it personally.
peace....

there's a very good 'beginner stuff' outlined in dk's 'art school' series...
"An Introduction to Acrylics" ... it runs through the gambit of mediums and
techniques, etc. plus i think it's only like 10 dollars.
