WHO CAN HELP ME? I WOULD BE VERY HAPPY, IF ANYONE HAS AN
INTERPRETATION FOR ME OF A DALI DRAWING WHICH I REALLY DONT UNDERSTAND.
WHOS ABLE TO INTERPRET IT FOR ME?
IN THE FOREGROUND OF THE DRAWING; YOU SEE A BIG CRUTCH WHO SPEARS
A SOFT WATCH, THE WATCH CRIES AND YOU SEE A TEAR OF THIS SOFT WATCH.
ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE DRAWING,THERE ARE SOME MORE CRUTCHES, WHO
REACH TO HEAVEN.THESE CRUTCHES SUPPORT THE CLOUDS. IN THE BACKGROUND
THERE ARE MOUNTAINS.
FROM THE LOWER BORDER OF THE DRAWING, THERE ARE DALIS "FAMOUS" VERTICAL
LINES WHICH END NEAR THE MOUNTAINS IN THE UPPER BORDER OF THE DRAWING.
I SAW THIS VERTICAL LINES, A LOT OF TIMES, IN DALIS PAINTINGS/DRAWINGS.
I WOULD BE VERY HAPPY ABOUT AN INTERPRETAION WHAT DALI WANTED TO EXPRSS
WITH THIS DRAWING, OF THIS CRUTCH WHICH SPEARS A SOFT WATCH AND THEN THIS
SOFT WATCH CRIES AND THERS A TEAR OF THIS SOFT WATCH. AND THE CRUTCHES IN
HEAVEN, WHICH SUPPORT THE CLOUDS.
THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP. IF ANYONE HAS AN INTERPRETATION, JUST LET ME KNOW.
OR IF ANYONE KNOWS A PLACE, OR A PERSON WHO CAN INTERPRET IT FOR ME, FOR A FEE
OF COURSE.
REGARDS,
ROGER

The crutch sprung from his childhood. He found a old crutch which he played
with constantly. It became everything from a sword to a king's septre. Later
in life he came to believe that nearly everything and everyone had a crutch
including the psycological crutches of the humans. Soft watches were a
reference to the fluidness of time. The tear here may well represent Dali's
own sadness over the passing of time in the human life and his feeling that
all of man's accomplishments could evertually be over come by time and the
elements. Also over time even some of our psycological crutches may be
vanquished.

Dali's mountains were references to the Spanish landscape. He felt that he
and most others could not escape the influence of homeland and traditions.
Dali painted these mountains in his early works in Cadaquez and they were
the basic of the realist landscape shown in surreal work. He continued to
use these mountains in the later works at his studio in Port Ligat.
The crutches supporting the clouds were most probably refering to the
"crutch elements" that clouds depend upon. Those being gravity and
atmosphereic pressure.

Repetitive vertical lines in his work most often refered to a painting by
Valasquez titles "Surrender of Breda" also known as "The Lances". This is
amother strong reference the his Spanish traditions. They became fuly
realized in his later masterwork titled "The Discovery of America by
Christopher Columbus".
