It was a surreal painting of a mythological scene with very Joan
Miro-ish characters made of blobs and and simple lines. A sailing
ship was in the background in the upper left hand corner, and in the
foreground were a couple of satyrs playing flute-like instruments, and a
woman was dancing in the middle.
Does anybody know what painting I'm describing and who the artist is?
Thanks,

=== Hi David. It sounds like `Joie de Vivre' (Joy of Living), painted by
Pablo Picasso in around the mid to late 40's of this century. Cool
painting eh? From what I remember, it was painted in southern France in a
small town called Antibes near Cannes. At the time, Picasso was using the
Chateau Grimaldi as a studio in Antibes, a huge 15th century castle built
on the ancient Greek acropolis, now Antibes' "old city" overlooking the
Mediterranean sea. Since Picasso left all his work there when he left the
chateau, The authorities turned it into the `Musee Picasso' and that's
where the original now hangs! It's very beautiful there in the Cote
d'Azur and as you can see in the painting, full of joie de vivre! Hope
that helps.
a bientot,
A.
