Hello!

This isn't specific to a particular process, but recently I've collected

many different types of paper to experiment with. Could someone explain
to me exactly what bristol board is? I've been playing with Strathmore
2-ply series 400 Medium/regular surface bristol board, which looks very
similar to Lenox 100 100% rag printmaking paper. What is the difference
between these two? i.e. sizing, archival, etc?

Also, I'm planning a large size project and would like any
recommendations for roll papers 42" to 60" wide. I'll have to mail order

them because nothing of size is available in my city.

Anyone tried Arches En-tout-cas paper? 25% rag watercolor paper in 52"
roles with Hot and Cold surfaces? Is the 25% reg a drawback?

Also, any suggestions on US mail order sources with large selections of
papers?

Thanks for the information!

I used some of the Strathmore papers for some printmaking projects, but I
used the 500 series. Strathmore 500 is multi-ply, so I think its very
similar to what you're asking about. The 500 paper is described as a
bristol board..
The 500 series paper comes in up to 5-ply.. From what I understand, each
ply has the paper grain running in a different direction. This minimizes
warping and buckling when the paper is wet, and also helps keep the paper
from stretching and shrinking when the paper is soaked and then dried.
Strathmore 500 is about the most dimensionally stabile paper I've used.

I've been doing some large projects on Lenox 100, which comes at 30x50"
sizes. If I need larger, I just tape 2 sheets together with linen tape.

Haven't tried these..

Good luck.. It can be really hard to order large sheets of paper via mail
order. I looked in the Daniel Smith catalog, they won't ship small
quantities of large paper, you have to buy a ream, and have it shipped by
truck.
