I'm looking for any information anyone can give me on Irish art
on exhibit in the U.S.
I live in New York City, and the only things they have at the
MMA are a few pieces of metal work in a forlorn little case
entitled "Early Celto-Roman Brass Work."
So I guess my question is: is that really all there is? I
would tend to think not, as you have the illumnation of the
manuscripts (i.e., the book of Kells), the art under the
colonial years, any work done during the Gaelic revival (there
must have been some) and work done today. Is there any museum
in the U.S. that features this more prominently, and is there
in the works or was there ever any sort of touring exhibit
featuring this?
Also, is there any sort of traceable connection between the
artwork done in the time of the Celts and the time of The Book
of Kells and the work of today? I wasn't trained in art or art
history except by osmosis through my mom and an ex-boyfriend,
so I really am adrift with this.
Please e-mail me responses as I may never find my way back to
this group . . .
