CURRENT EVENTS
--------------

**UKRAINIAN ART EXHIBITION**
London, England. Londoners now have the opportunity to view
the exhibition "Realism and Impressionism from Ukraine," which
recently opened in London. Jointly organized by the Ukrainian
Embassy in Great Britain and the British Company, Danusha
Services Ltd., the exhibition represents different areas of art
including painting, graphic, and sculpture by such well-known
Ukrainian artists as Tetiana Yablonsko, Valentyna Znoby, and
Tetiana Holembivsko. The money raised from this exhibition and
auction will go towards a fund established by the Ukrainian
Embassy to help the victims of Chornobyl. The exhibition will
last until the 17th of November. --Source: UNIAN

**RETURNING TO HER ROOTS**
Lviv, Ukraine. An exhibition of works by Canadian (Toronto)
artist of Ukrainian descent, Halyna Novakiwska, opened on
Tuesday, November 7th, at the Lviv Art Gallery (Stefanyk Street,
13). Forty oil paintings, representing vivid still lifes and
intense portraiture, frame the two exhibition halls. The same
exhibition was also shown in Kyiv. Although several favorable
comments about Ms. Novakiwska's art work were made by the
exhibition organizers during the introduction, the most
exhilarating impressions were seen within the art work.
Among the warm images of summer, a museum window bestowed
the other extreme: torrent snow. Lviv art admirers appreciate
Ms. Novakiwska's long-awaited return to Ukraine.
--Anthony Potoczniak, Anush Mesropian, UAM.

**UKRAINIAN FILM MAKES A DEBUT**
Odesa, Ukraine. The premiere showing of the film "Partytura
na Mohylnomu Kameni [A Musical Score on the Grave Stone]" by
artists of the Odesa film studio "Blahovist" ended the
General Assembly of the Artists' Unions of Ukraine.
In an interview with UNIAN correspondent, the film's director,
Yaroslav Lupij, stated that: ["Partytura na Mohylnomu Kameni"]
is the first film in the Ukrainian language by the newly
re-established Odesa state film studio." --Source: UNIAN
