On Nov. 10, at Christie's auction house in New York City, Mark Rothko's
1954 abstract painting "Homage to Matisse" sold for a record $22.4
million, 50% over the high estimate. The sale broke the previous record
for a Rothko, which sold at Sotheby's in Novemeber 2004 for $17.36
million.
And why wouild anyone believe one word that comes from Christie's
Schlock Meisters INC.? This is a criminal operation under indictment in
the US for rigging prices and lying about their sleazy practices to avoid
prosecution in the US. Any thing they claim should be seen as a desperate
effort to regain some credibility with a public whom they have been
criminally exploiting for years. Claiming sales at top prices is merely ONE
element of their criminal practices that they hope will bring sellers to
their door even if they have to post totally fictitious prices for paintings
bought / sold at auction. No one should believe a word of it. And no one
should consider doing business with them until they agree to face charges in
the US, As did the management of Sothebys, Christie's co- conspirators,
who were tried, convicted, fined and imprisoned for robbing their customers
with false, and deceptive practices extending over a period of many years.
