I had until recently become very bored by British art due to the
dominance of the student artist generation. But I am very pleased that
recent artists that have started becoming known are far more
interesting. There seems to be a move towards work that is less
graphic design and marketing and more a genuine inquiry into the
social and philosophical world. For example the video and installation
artist Graham Nicholls ( http://www.grahamnicholls.com/ ), who is
still in his twenties but has as far as I can tell had a very
interesting life. Artists like this are thinkers not educational
products. There is also groups like the Luna Nera group (
http://www.luna-nera.org/ ) who work on a site specific basis and make
work that is does not over look the social and historical dimension of
art. All in all there is a range of interesting new-media art, street
art and powerful uses of video art, as the medium becomes less a
gimmick and more an accepted medium as photography has.
