It may be that you think that it is the art which
makes the artist and I agree with that. But out
there it is the artist who gives authority to the
work. Even for a small exhibition now, we have to
supply credentials. Even cafe managers want to see
a portfolio.
Ideally every artist who wants to market work,
should have an agent. Let them hustle for 10%
while the artist continues to work in his/her
ivory tower studio. Or keep a part time job going
to support the art work.

While I realize that no one can function in a vacuum, I don't agree with you.
Of course, it depends on what you mean by community. If you mean support
group, well, that goes for life in general. Everyone needs it. If I relied
on my larger community I'd be painting watercolour seascapes for the rest of
my life, there would be no encouragement for experimentation. However, my
close friends, that's a different story.

I am speaking about the art market above. "Who did it" rules.

No, because there are many artists out there walking the streets
looking for venues, and maybe because they are unsure of their own
judgement.

I would really like to know where the art world is. Have you seen it?
Do people live there? I resent time away from my work. There are some agents
people can trust.

And don't forget the random benefits of luck. Lots of it to you.
