! Gouache Painting Tip Needed !

Hello there

You know the effects that Egon Schiele gets in his paintings of figures?

I'm not referring to his oil paintings... I mean his watercolor/gouache
paintings.

I mean the way he uses gouache (I suppose it's gouache) to model volume,

for example where he paints heads of hair or clothing/fabrics.

Well I bought myself a set of gouache paints and set out to try to imitate
this
effect but I didn't succeed. Can anyone help?
