SKILL IN CLASSICISM NOT THE ONLY FORM
One is that skill, in this strident, billyclub slogan, really means
only skill in classical realism. In other words, the phrase tries to
convince us that without the trompe l'oeil techniques of realism there
is no skill, therefore no value to the art someone might produce.
ELITISM OF THE AFFLUENT
The second hidden concept is that, in practice, skill in classicism
can only be learned from a school or from someone who learned it in
school. To learn such techniques either in a school or from a private
teacher requires paying quite a bit in fees. This requires quite a lot
of discretionary income, which only an income level at or above middle
class can afford, except for the rare scholarship student. It is
because such training is so expensive that so many artistic aspirants
are forced to settle for cartoon and comic book work. Therefore, the
phrase, No Skill No Art, conceals a snide, ugly elitism that only the
affluent can share, with rare exceptions that will not disprove the
point in any case.
IMPLIED RIGHT-WING VALUES
The third hidden value in this phrase is that, now in the 21st
century, as in the latter half of the 20th, classicism carries
conservative baggage. Advocates of classicism generally will line up
with the conservative political and social values of vested interests,
old money, authoritarianism, and the establishment--and all the
cruelty this brings with it.
TRUE INTENT TO CRUSH NOT LIBERATE
The fourth assumption embedded in this phrase is that its real intent
is not even to promote the learning it so irritatingly boasts about,
but to intimidate anyone from venturing into art unless they follow
author's concept, which he and his shadowy fellow travellers imply is
the only form of art. Yet this assumption is discredited by thousands
of years of artistic expression. To mention one example--ancient
Celtic and other European and west Asian art resembles what would be
called expressionist and modern art today.
There are many definitions of skill, and skill is dependent on how or
whether it achieves the purpose it is directed toward, which depend in
turn on the values of the maker.
So let us remember not to let this bitter crank discourage people from
making art and learning about it enjoyably.

This is your interpretation, not his. Mani repeatedly stated that
there are good abstract works and that these also require skill. One
of his favorites is Disney, now this hardly can be described as
Classical Realism.
I've never seen Mani championing Classical Realism above anything
else. I believe you're one of the first doing this therefor it must be
your own idea you're fulminating against.

Sheer and utter nonsense. You must have missed Mani critiques of the
deplorable state Art schools generally are in. Perhaps you're a bit
disappointed that he doesn't go into this as far as you do but you
can't expect him to, he isn't paranoid like you :-)

Basically you're saying that people who like Classical Realism are
conservatives? It requires quite a leap of imagination to connect
one's taste in art with one's political convictions. Then again,
discrimination has been based on wilder things.

Not really, I'm just helping Dile with his first steps to trollhood. I
realise he's trying his hand at a genuine trolling attempt and I
simply play my part by a weak to medium retort (nothing to hard, just
a run of the mill type) so now he can focus on a counter attack. He
has to apply twisted logic to defend his ludicrous statements and at
the same time try to discredit me :-)

Skill in creating artwork has nothing necessarily to do with
classicism. The term classicism relates to subject matter.

Utter stupidity! As a matter of fact many affluent collect Modern
Academic art which requires almost no skill whatever.

Yes, all you artzy fartzies, don't learn try to attain skill, just

If you want to be checking logic, then first check mesken's
assumptions about people he disagrees with: artzy fartzy, not trying
to attain skill. This man is an idiot but I suppose mani will have to

You know Dile, you could do with an ally yourself. NerdGerl seems to
have returned. Perhaps you can join forces with her. She would be a
very powerfull ally to you since she's one of the few who can annoy
the crap out of me. She also hates most of your bullies.

Come to think of it, yours must be too; you've been a busy little

Really NerdGerl, it has very little chance of success. I'd rather see

Of course! Life's a stage to Puppet Masters and Pig Fuckers!
Not for me, but Eddie may have a hard time with it. See above:
Posters who stick around this forum have no life; NG has a life
because she hasn't been posting to this forum in recent times (not
counting the last week). I pointed out the fallacy in the logic

Well, let's see - I said the posts of EGN and NG patting each other on
the back are fascinating. This is a fact, but it only applies to me,
AFAIK. If anyone else finds it fascinating, they'll have to pipe up.
Now, the lurkers are an opinion, based on your recent post about all
the EGN/NG supporters who are strangely silent here. I basically see
NG supporting EGN, EGN supporting NG, and no one supporting poor Dil.
You should indoctrinate him into your world domination society.

You can not form a statement about my life when you don't have all the

It's not strange. I've been called a fool for arguing with fools.
However it's a little hard for me to sit still, when the likes of you -
scratch your head over why LURKERS are SILENT. Hello?!?!? Do you know what
an opinion is? Sure, an opinion is a noun, but lurkers aint' exactly "A

Sure I can. You do it, I do it, we all do it. I can say anything I
want. Now, I did preface it with "I guess", and I have to admit the
intended tone was ironic. Apologies if it was too subtle for you.
I'll try not to confuse you in the future. Anyhow, the response was

Sorry, I thought you'd be able to connect the dots. I'll expand: The
possibility of the presence of lurkers supporting you and EGN is an
opinion of mine (influenced by Mesken's humorous post), based on your
recent post about all the EGN/NG supporters who send you email, yet
are strangely silent here.
I hope this helps. Anytime you have a hard time understanding what's
going on, be sure to speak up, and I'll try to explain slowly and
