> Western Surrealism - Hugh O'Mara
Hmm.
Well, there's one image there.
I have a slight problem with the quote on the first line of the first
paragraph. This is only an ideological quirk, but I don't see how
"Symbolism, Surrealism and Folk Art" could "meet" on friendly terms.
Ideal Surrealism is the polar opposite of Symbolism. Symbolism relies on
elements commonly accepted by an audience or a group of audiences. These
elements are used to convey messages or feelings to the viewer.
Surrealism (Ideal) is opposed to the conveyance of messages, through
symbols or any other concrete means. Surrealism should be devoid of
definition and free of psychoanalytical content. One of the main points is
to make an image that is an image and only an image (This is not a pipe).
When tied to definitions and implications the creator is not truly free of
the surface mind and therefore not truly "unconscious" (or lucid).
Folk art is just hacked crap that some New York moron decided to place
cash value upon.
I don't think the three make fast friends.

Hello Brother Alphabet:
Thanks for your message. I have been occupied with some other web things
at the site, namely webstat code (for myself and friends). That's why I
haven't been prompt in replying. Please forgive me.
OK ... re "symbolism and surrealism meets folk art and some other
things". I guess I like to mix metaphors and loosely, too. I put together
that phrase as a way of attempting to describe what it is that I do. This
does not mean that I think that I am exactly any one of these things
specifically but that there are aspects of these in what I do. Yes,
there is only one image on the main page. The current one is somewhat
surrealistic. The three images at the installation page are line drawings
and don't fit the description. I change the contents often and they are
eclectic. Sometimes I have a theme in mind. Other times I do not. I plan
on having some nudes shortly.
Where is there a semblance of folk? Well, not in a while. However, I am
working on something I call the 6+6 string which strikes me as a folk art
type of instrument as opposed to something a real craftsman would make.
I even think it will make sounds! That would be to use as background audio
for video tape. I also have something in the works - a 3d version of an
earlier piece called Nocturnal Woman Ship that may fit the bill.
Did you stop by the Virtuelles Galeries site - link off my main page?
I'm in the Painter section. Also have you been to Hughsterville yet?
Anyway, thank you for your comments. Do you have a better name for what
I do? If so, I'd enjoy hearing it!
Thanks again and sorry for the delay.
Hugh

Have a look to

and you will see how magnificent can be surrealism and symbolism
together (of course without any folk).
I specially recommand "such is life" section.
Enjoy.
