ZING! EXHIBITION ~ WEST AMERICA Gallery
~ Sea Ranch CA Artist, Mattison Fitzgerald will be exhibitng part of her new
ZING! series at West America in Gualala, Ca October and November 2000.
Fitzgeralds' ZING! works of the California State Flower, The California Poppy
were completed at The Sea Ranch, Posh Garden. The works are all of special
design as the pastel crayons Fitzgerald uses are hand fabricated by California
Materials Scientist and infamous in the pastel world, Pastel Maker, Mark
Kramer. Mark Kramer has also fabricated pastel crayons for Hans Burkhardt NY
School Artists who was also Arshile Gorkys studio mate.
Fitzgerald says to notice "the works were drawn in the sun and in the fog and
amazing poppies open and close with the weather as the fog moves in and out. I
caught it on paper the motion of the flowers!
I named it Zing! because the color of the bright poppies are so inspiring and
fun and the word ZING! seems to fit that feeling."
You will find the works in line with Fitzgerald's internationally recognized
style to be fluid, bright, uplifting and multi-dimensional existing on several
planes within the paper. Noted NYC Art Critic, Gustavo Valdese from Noticias de
Arte says, "We observe that nothing in her style resembles anything that we
have seen in the so called school of New York."
Fitzgerald says "These are small studies for large painted works she plans to
do later this year." You can often find Fitzgerald painting in the field on Sea
Ranch.
