Yep. I'm the President of the Visual Arts Society for the University of
Windsor. We run a gallery, have receptions for shows, publish a student fanzine (and distribute it locally: Detroit, and Windsor), and hold events/parties.
We also act as liason between students and faculty, and sit on campus committees for hiring sessional Professors, and promotion and tenure.
That's what we do.
The Mount Allison Fine Arts Soceity has two exhibitions/sales a year,
hosts about two parties, is a voice for issues like which resources
need more money (and where to cut it from), sit on committees for
curriculium changes, professor promotion, and support the Film Soceity.
The art exhibition/sale is used to funded the soceity, and is the best
chance for members to help cover expenses by selling a few works if
they are luckly. A 3rd or 4th year student can typically expect to
sell about $100 Cdn of works if matted, framed and have "pleasing to
the public" type pieces. (i.e. not a rotten bananna and a hammer )
I hope to print some Fractals ( non-Mandelbrot Set ) to include in
the second exhibition/sale. Some pieces should be viewable on the
World-Wide-Web with the aid of NCSA's Mosaic and the likes.
